Bringing MLPs back to tip-top shape!
Patient name: Sparkleworks
Sparkleworks was the first pony to arrive out of the ones I ordered. The beginning of my collection! I'm so excited!
Patient information: mlpmerch.com link | 2003, Glitter Celebration Wave 1
Initial Presentation:
On initial inspection, she has a warped leg, a discoloured spot under her cutie mark, and the tinsel in her hair is frizzy.
I believe the spot under her cutie mark may be "pony cancer", but a friend of mine told me it could also be mold. Given its location if it is pony cancer I'm going to have to use masking fluid to cover up her paint to prevent it from fading while I treat the dark spot.
Since it'll be a pain in the butt to open her up and check if the spot is mold, I'm going to fix the other issues first.
I start with an initial bath with warm water and antibacterial hand soap. I'm not scrubbing too hard, I just want to get her surface-level clean.
For her warped leg, before I do anything invasive like boiling her, I'm going to try wedging some cardboard between the legs to act as a spacer and hopefully correct her posture over the next few days.
Next up is her hair! The pink part of her hair looks mostly fine, just a few flyaways; the tinsel is where we start to see some frizz. It doesn't seem too severe, so I won't be using a hair straightener yet. While the hair is still wet from her initial cleaning, I generously apply conditioner, then gently work through it with a comb. I rinse the hair and wrap it for shape. I can't wrap the tail around her leg because of the cardboard spacer, so I use a thick marker instead.
Good morning Sparkleworks!
Time to take your hair out of its prison and comb it out to give it some bounce. The tinsel is still a bit frizzy but it still looks way better!
I'm honestly not super happy with how the hair came out, but I think considering this is my very first restoration that's okay for now. I may redo it in the future, though!
I also take the spacer off of her legs to check on her progress. I can tell the warping is starting to get better, but I think I'll still leave the spacer on for another day or two.
I'm going to set her back on my shelf for now because fixing the dark spot seems a little intimidating and I'd like to get a bit more pony experience under my belt before I tackle it.
